Scientists at Southwestern University of Texas point out that the positive effect of training persists for several days. As shown by experiments with mice, animal metabolism accelerated to 48 hours after intense physical activity.
The scientists focused on the two brain networks that are part of the melanocortin system. They are both in humans and in mice. One of the networks - POMC - is associated with reduced appetite, low blood sugar and more active burning of calories. Another network - NPY / AgRP - makes a person more hungry and slows down the metabolism.
Scientists tracked the activity of these networks in rodents. At the same time, animals were engaged in physical activity (trained) in the framework of three modes: from 0 to 1 day, 5 days and 10 days. A single case of increased physical activity (three 20-minute runs on a treadmill) activated POMC and slowed down NPY / AgRP. As a result, animals began to eat less for 6 hours, and the rate of burning calories increased.
According to scientists, this effect lasts longer for people who train a lot. For this reason, exercise can effectively control the level of sugar. In theory, medicamental activation of the melanocortin system will help to cope with diabetes.
